Against Miami, Killa Trav squeaked past an NFL Hall of Famer in the Kansas City Chiefs record books.
Travis Kelce or Tony Gonzalez? Don’t make us choose! How lucky is Chiefs Kingdom that two of the greatest tight ends in NFL history suited up in red and gold? But looking purely at the stats during their Chiefs’ tenure, Travis is chipping away at Tony’s top dog status.
The Miami Dolphins’ strategy to control Travis Kelce may have been one of the only aspects of their game plan to be well-executed during the Chiefs’ 21-14 win. Miami held Travis to 14 yards on just three catches. But with those 14 yards, Kelce slipped past Tony Gonzalez and now sits atop the Chiefs all-time leaders for receiving yards!
Gonzalez still holds the Chiefs’ franchise records in other important receiving stats. He caught 916 passes and 76 touchdowns. Kelce needs 46 catches and 4 touchdowns to pass him. If Travis remains healthy and productive, he’s on pace to break those records either later this season or early next season.
